Take a Step for Local Veterans at Stars & Strides

What can a Saturday morning and a $15 registration do for a veteran in our community? It can help Lake-Geauga Habitat for Humanity make the next critical home repair possible.

On Saturday, September 12, we’re partnering with Lakeland Community College and its Veterans Center for Stars & Strides 5K & Walk, bringing our community together to remember the lives lost on September 11 while supporting veterans here at home.

Made possible in part through an AmeriCorps grant focused on 9/11 remembrance and service, Stars & Strides is about carrying the spirit of Never Forget forward through action.

And we want you there.

This Is What Your Registration Can Help Make Possible

Recently, our volunteers completed a critical home repair for a local veteran and his family. His daughter has disabilities, and before the project, her father told us she had never been able to go outside on her own.

Our volunteers built a new deck and accessible ramp to give her safer access to the outdoors. They even designed a custom safety gate for the deck, creating a secure place where she can play outside without the risk of going down the steps.

That’s the kind of impact we want to keep making for veterans throughout Lake and Geauga Counties.

Registration for Stars & Strides is just $15 through September 7.

That $15 puts you at the starting line, but it also puts you behind projects like this one. Proceeds from Stars & Strides support affordable housing and critical home repairs for veterans in Lake and Geauga Counties, helping us serve the next veteran who needs a safer place to call home.

Come with your family. Get a group of coworkers together. Walk, run or simply make September 12 a morning to show up for veterans in our community.

Together with Lakeland Community College, its Veterans Center, our volunteers and community partners, we can honor September 11 through service — and turn remembrance into something that continues making a difference after race day.
